Custom Cowboy Hats for Bachelorette Parties

Matching branded hats for the whole party — felt, straw or leather, with the bride's name, a date or your own artwork on a hat band, patch or embroidery. Ten hats is the usual order, and it is the one favour nobody leaves in the hotel room.

Most bachelorette parties order ten custom cowboy hats — the average party size — in a single colourway, branded with the bride's name or a party slogan. Straw is the usual pick for a summer weekend, felt for autumn and winter, and a woven hat band is the fastest and cheapest way to personalise every hat in the group.

Why the cowboy hat became the bachelorette uniform

The western hat did to the bachelorette weekend what the sash did to it twenty years ago — it turned a group of friends into a visibly matching set, and it photographs beautifully. Unlike a sash, nobody throws it away on Sunday.

The numbers behind it are not small. Roughly half of bachelorette parties now buy customised favours or swag for the group, and the average party is ten people — which is exactly the order size a custom hat run is built around.

How many hats to order, and what guests are already spending

Order one hat per confirmed guest plus one spare. The average party is ten, so a twelve-hat order covers the group, the bride and a last-minute addition without a second setup charge.

It helps to know what else is on your guests' credit cards that weekend. Spend per attendee varies mostly by how they get there:

  • One hat per guest, plus one spare — sizing surprises are the most common reason for a reorder
  • A single colourway photographs better than a mixed set; vary the hat band if you want individual names
  • Order four weeks out for a summer date — straw hats are the first thing to go short in June and July
  • Reorders of the same artwork skip the setup entirely
Average bachelorette party spend, per attendee

A guest flying in already spends about $2,000 on the weekend. A branded hat is a rounding error against that — and it is the thing she keeps.

Where a branded hat sits in the weekend budget

Nearly two thirds of attendees spend more than $400 on a bachelorette weekend, and more than a third clear a thousand dollars. Against that, the per-head cost of a branded hat is one of the smallest line items on the trip — and the only one that survives it.

Share of bachelorette attendees by total weekend spend

Roughly one guest in ten clears $3,000 for a single weekend.

Felt, straw or leather for a bachelorette weekend

Season decides this more than anything else. A straw hat is lighter and vented for an August weekend in Nashville or Scottsdale; felt reads richer in photographs and holds a crease through autumn and winter.

Material Best season Feel in photos Holds up to
Straw / palm Late spring to early autumn Light, casual, summer-forward Heat and sun; less so rain
Wool felt Autumn through spring Rich, saturated colour Cool weather; creases well
Fur felt Autumn through spring The most premium of the three Weather and years of wear
Leather / suede Year round Textured, individual Hard wear; ages into a patina

Three ways to put her name on the hat

All three work on a ten-hat run. Which one you want depends on whether every hat says the same thing.

Woven or printed hat band

The fastest and least expensive route, and the only one where changing the text hat-to-hat costs nothing. Ideal for individual names or roles.

Leather or chenille patch

A patch reads as the most premium option in photographs and suits a single shared design — the bride's name, a date, a city.

Direct embroidery

Stitched straight into felt for a permanent mark. Best on wool or fur felt; not suited to open-weave straw.

Frequently asked questions

How many custom cowboy hats should I order for a bachelorette party?

One per confirmed guest plus one spare. The average bachelorette party is ten attendees, so most groups order eleven or twelve hats — the spare covers a sizing swap or a late addition without triggering a second setup charge.

Can every hat have a different name on it?

Yes, on a hat band. Printed and woven bands are produced individually, so each hat can carry a different name at no extra cost. Patches and direct embroidery are set up once per design, so per-hat text raises the price.

How far in advance do I need to order?

Four weeks is comfortable for a summer date. Straw and palm hats run short in June and July, so earlier is safer for a peak-season weekend; felt is less seasonal.

Do the hats come in different sizes?

Yes. Most bachelorette groups order a mix of sizes or use adjustable sizing tape so a single size fits most of the party — which is also why we recommend the spare hat.

Is straw or felt better for a summer bachelorette weekend?

Straw. It is lighter and vented, which matters for an outdoors August weekend, and it reads as summer in photographs. Felt is the better choice from about October onward.

What does a bachelorette party normally cost per guest?

About $1,300 per attendee on average, rising to roughly $2,000 when guests fly in and falling to about $900 when they drive, according to The Knot's 2023 study of 500 US respondents.
